Product Description

Rocatex Acrylic Primer - 5 Litre

ROCATEX Acrylic Primer is a water-based polymer emulsion designed to maximise penetration into substrates and improve surface preparation for tiling and screeding applications.

  • Concrete and screeds
  • Anhydrite and gypsum surfaces
  • Timber and plasterboard
  • Blockwork and brickwork
  • Existing tiles and metal
  • Suitable for interior and exterior use

Suitable for porous and non-porous substrates including concrete, anhydrite screeds, cement renders, existing tiles, asphalt, chipboard, plywood, and floorboards.

Substrate Preparation

All surfaces must be clean, sound, dry, and free from dust, dirt, grease, oil, laitance, and other contaminants that may affect adhesion.

Mechanical preparation such as scabbling is recommended to create a suitable key. If the substrate has been exposed to chemical contamination, specialist advice should be obtained before proceeding.

Application

ROCATEX Acrylic Primer should be:

  • Diluted 1:1 with clean water on porous surfaces
  • Applied neat on non-porous surfaces and anhydrite screeds

Highly absorbent surfaces may require additional coats.

Apply using a soft brush, ensuring all puddles and excess material are brushed out prior to screeding.

Do not apply below 5°C or above 25°C.

Ensure the primer is fully dry before further work begins.

Substrate Specific Guidance

Anhydrite Screeds

Moisture content must not exceed 0.5% or 75% RH.

Remove surface laitance, vacuum thoroughly, then apply 2–4 neat coats of ROCATEX Acrylic Primer.

Concrete Screeds

Apply 2 coats diluted 1:1 with clean water.

Allow approximately 6 weeks curing before tiling.

Power Floated Concrete

Mechanically abrade the surface, vacuum clean, then apply 2 diluted coats.

Sand & Cement Screeds

Apply 2 coats diluted 1:1 with clean water.

Allow approximately 3 weeks curing before tiling.

Gypsum Plaster

Roughen the surface to remove laitance and apply 2 neat coats.

Allow approximately 4 weeks curing before tiling.

Plasterboards

Apply 2 coats diluted 1:1 with clean water.

Plywood

Prime with ROCATEX Acrylic Primer diluted 1:1 with clean water.

Tongue & Groove Boards / Floorboards

Prime with ROCATEX Acrylic Primer diluted 1:1 with clean water.

Chipboard

Apply a neat coat to all exposed edges and joints.

Apply a slurry coat to the surface using:

  • 1 part cement adhesive powder
  • 1 part ROCATEX Acrylic Primer

Brush on a thin coat and allow to dry.

Cement Based Tile Backer Boards

Priming is not required if the surface is clean and sound.

Priming is recommended before applying self-levelling compounds.

Existing Tiles & Non-Porous Surfaces

Apply a slurry coat using:

  • 1 part cement adhesive powder
  • 1 part ROCATEX Acrylic Primer

Apply a thin coat with a brush and allow to dry.

Note: This method cannot be guaranteed on bitumen surfaces.

Metal

Score the surface to provide a mechanical key.

Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and free from contaminants.

Apply a slurry coat using:

  • 1 part cement adhesive powder
  • 1 part ROCATEX Acrylic Primer

Brush on a thin coat and allow to dry.

Coverage

Approximately 10m² per kg depending on substrate absorbency and surface condition.

Storage

Store unopened, clear of the ground, in a cool, dry, frost-free environment.

Shelf life is approximately 18 months from date of manufacture.

A small amount of liquid separation may occur and can be remixed by stirring.

If the container is left open and a skin forms, remove the skin before use.
