ROCATEX Ultimate Grip Primer is a solvent-free, rapid drying bonding primer formulated with adhesion-enhancing additives.
Designed to bond to difficult non-absorbent surfaces, its textured finish promotes excellent adhesion for tiling, levelling, screeding, and rendering applications.
Suitable for use on a wide range of absorbent and non-absorbent substrates including:
- Existing tiles
- Asphalt and bitumen
- Metal and glass
- Moisture-resistant chipboard
- Gypsum and lime plaster
- Plasterboards
- Concrete and screeds
- Anhydrite screeds
- Levelling compounds
- Cement renders
- Plywood and floorboards
Substrate Preparation
All surfaces must be clean, dry, sound, and free from dust, grease, oil, laitance, and contaminants that may affect adhesion.
Residual moisture content should not exceed:
- Cement: 2%
- Anhydrite: 0.5%
- Heated anhydrite: 0.3%
- Gypsum plaster: 1%
Application
Stir thoroughly before use.
- Use undiluted on non-absorbent surfaces
- Dilute 1:1 with clean water on absorbent surfaces
Apply evenly using a roller, brush, or sponge.
Only apply a thin coat. Over-application may cause skinning.
Do not apply below 5°C or above 25°C.
Anhydrite screeds require two diluted coats.
On non-absorbent surfaces and anhydrite screeds, allow the primer to dry fully before further work. Typical drying time is 15–60 minutes depending on conditions.
On absorbent surfaces, levelling and tiling may begin while the diluted primer remains wet.
Substrate Specific Guidance
Existing Tiles & Non-Porous Surfaces
Apply 1 neat coat.
Metal
Apply 1 neat coat.
Flooring Grade Asphalt / Bitumen
Ensure the surface is sound and apply 1 neat coat.
Epoxy Damp Proof Membranes
Apply 1 neat coat.
Chipboard
Apply 1 neat coat to all exposed edges, joints, and surfaces.
Gypsum Plaster
Roughen the surface to remove laitance and apply 1 diluted coat.
Plasterboards
Apply 1 diluted coat.
Concrete Screeds
Apply 1 diluted coat. Allow approximately 6 weeks curing before tiling.
Power Floated Concrete
Mechanically abrade the surface, vacuum clean, then apply 1 diluted coat.
Sand & Cement Screeds
Apply 1 diluted coat. Allow approximately 3 weeks curing before tiling.
Anhydrite Screeds
Remove laitance, vacuum thoroughly, then apply 2 diluted coats.
Plywood
Apply 1 diluted coat.
Tongue & Groove Boards / Floorboards
Apply 1 diluted coat.
Cement Tile Backer Boards
Priming before tiling is not required if surfaces are clean and sound. For levelling compounds, apply 1 diluted coat.
Coverage
Approximately 10m² per kg depending on substrate absorbency and surface condition.
Storage
Store unopened, clear of the ground, in a cool, dry, frost-free environment.
Shelf life is approximately 12 months from date of manufacture.
A small amount of liquid separation may occur and can be remixed by stirring.
If the container is left open and a skin forms, remove the skin before use.
