ROCATEX Waterproof Tanking Coat is a rapid-drying, solvent-free liquid rubber membrane based on an advanced synthetic latex polymer system with excellent waterproofing performance. Once cured, it remains elastic and forms a seamless waterproof barrier.
Suitable for use on a wide range of construction substrates before tiling, including internal and external walls and floors in showers, wetrooms, bathrooms, steam rooms, balconies, and terraces.
Preparation:
All surfaces must be sound, dry, clean, and free from dust, grease, or contaminants that may affect adhesion. Any weak areas should be repaired and fully cured before application. Dusty surfaces should be vacuumed and greasy surfaces thoroughly degreased.
Waterproof Boards
Waterproof tile backer boards, such as ROCATEX Rocaboards, provide an ideal substrate for tiling projects exposed to moisture and water. Rocaboards also offer excellent thermal insulation and are compatible with underfloor heating systems.
Gypsum Plasters
Roughen the surface using a wire brush or abrasive tool to remove surface laitance. Although not essential, a primer coat can be used to improve adhesion by mixing 1 part ROCATEX Waterproof Tanking Coat with 1 part clean water. Allow to dry fully before application. New plaster should be fully dry before use, which may take approximately 6 weeks.
Plasterboards
Skimming is not required. Ensure boards are dry, securely fixed, and rigid.
Wood
Wooden surfaces must provide a rigid and secure base without deflection. Prime the reverse and edges of boards using ROCATEX Acrylic Primer diluted 1:1 with clean water to help prevent moisture ingress.
Mixing:
Stir thoroughly before use. Do not dilute.
Application:
Use in conjunction with ROCATEX Waterproof Sealing Tapes, Corners, and Pipe Collars.
Apply the first coat of ROCATEX Waterproof Tanking Coat and, while still wet, firmly press in sealing tape, corners, or pipe collars with a minimum overlap of 50mm. Once dry (approximately 15 minutes), apply a second coat ensuring all tapes are fully covered.
Tiling can begin once the second coat has fully cured, approximately 1 hour at 20°C.
Tools can be cleaned with water while the product is still wet.
Limitations:
- Not suitable for swimming pools or areas subject to water pressure
- Not designed for permanently exposed outdoor conditions
- Not UV resistant
Coverage:
- Walls: 1kg/m² at a minimum thickness of 1mm
- Floors: 1.5kg/m² at a minimum thickness of 1.5mm
- Joints: Approximately 300g/m
Storage:
Store unopened in a cool, dry, frost-free environment away from direct sunlight.
Health & Safety:
- Contains aqueous SBR polymer emulsion reinforced with minerals and additives
- Keep out of reach of children
- Avoid contact with skin and eyes
- If contact with eyes occurs, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice
- After skin contact, remove contaminated clothing and wash thoroughly with soap and water
- Wear suitable gloves and eye/face protection
- If swallowed, seek medical advice immediately and show the product label or container
